Familiar into Modern:
A New Home in a 1970s Estate
This project presents a new residential development within a mature estate characterized by 1970s terraced housing. The site is situated within a quiet cul-de-sac, offering a unique opportunity to create a contemporary dwelling while respecting the established architectural vernacular.
Context and Opportunity
The proposed dwelling embodies a 3-bedroom detached residence with an integrated garage and a thoughtfully designed rear garden. Its architectural language draws inspiration from the surrounding estate, echoing its form, materiality, and fenestration details. This creates a dialogue between the existing context and the new structure, fostering a sense of belonging and continuity.
Reflecting Identity
The selection of chosen materials prioritizes both sustainability and aesthetic integration. A weathered light brown brick blend reminiscent of the local London stock forms the primary cladding, reflecting the established character of the neighborhood. Contrastingly, dark brown shingle accents and matching clay roof tiles envelop the top floor of the proposal, bringing a touch of modern element and ensuring the dwelling stands out as a distinct and contemporary addition.
