The Clapham Home
With a growing family and a desire for fresh possibilities, the owners of a charming Victorian terrace in South Clapham entrusted Unknown Makers with its refurbishment. Victorian properties offer a unique splendour- high ceilings bathe rooms in light, sash windows frame charming street views, and intricate details tell of their rich history, waiting to be rediscovered.
Through thoughtful design iterations, the homeowners embraced a layout that brought the rear garden into the heart of the kitchen. A "transitional" brick wall, generous glazing, and a minimalist palette transformed the space into the beating heart of the home.
With a brief for a loft and a side-return extension, our design team focused on understanding local planning constraints and how to blend modern functionality with the home's historic charm. As the property's new shape took form, we also explored opportunities hidden within its walls: an underused basement, the potential for a closer connection between the kitchen and living areas, and the introduction of spaces for reflection and rest.
